Deployment
The Great Bray-Shaman stood with the Bestigor and the Battle Standard Bearer with the Gor Herd. The Savage Orc Shaman joined the Savage Orc Mob.
Turn 1 - Orcs and Goblins
The Orc army advanced quickly, eager to show the beastmen who the better fighters were!
Krashnakh employed the raw Waaagh power emanating from his Brudaz and summoned the foot of Gork over the Chariot, which promptly stamped on the war machine, but only managed to damage it slightly. A further attack on the chariot wasn't successful - but there would be other chances!
The Goblins in the chariots loosed their arrows on their enemies but only one Gor fell with an arrow through his throat. The Doom Diver catapult was even unluckier as the catapult seat snapped completely, sending the goblin within somersaulting wildly over the battlefield. The swearing crew had to repair the catapult before any more goblins could be launched at the Beastmen!
Turn 1 - Beastmen
Encouraged by the failure of the Goblin artillery, the left flank of the Beastman army moved forward. The Harpys flew right across the battlefield and landed just in front of the Savage Orcs and forced the Night Goblins to release the fanatics, who whirled crazily towards the houses within the Beastman lines.
While the Bestigor held their position, the Great Bray-Shaman slunk away from the oncoming Orcs and sought shelter behind the village in the Beastmen lines. His voice, amplified by magic, called in a voice that could not be disobeyed! A wild roaring answered him and a terrifying figure entered the battlefield behind the Savage Orcs...a Ghorgon had answered his call!
The effort was too much for the shaman and and he roared in pain as wild magic danced around him, melting the snow for several paces in every direction. The blessing of his wild gods was however on him and he strode on unharmed, his senses linked with the monstrous form on the Orc right flank.
Turn 2 - Orcs and Goblins
On the Orc left, the Mangler Squigs and the Pump Wagon came dangerously close to the Bestigor while two chariots moved into position in front of the herd. Both fanatics crashed against the houses in front of the Great Bray-Shaman and would take no further part in the battle.
One Night Goblin in the rear of the mob pushed his neighbour who angrily swung his fist but only managed to hit another Goblin squarely on his hooked nose! Within seconds the mob had become an untidy heap of screaming, scrapping Goblins, none of whom had noticed the arrival of the Ghorgor...
Krashnakh ignored the Goblins completely and roared out the command for the Savage Orc Boyz and the chariot to charge. Needing no urging, the Boyz ran straight at the Harpys who immediately fled but were cut down on the run by the Orcs. Seeing the Harpys ripped to shreds was too much for the crew of the Chariot which also turned tail and ran, but the wolves were too fast and the chariot was also overrun!
Roaring in triumph, the Great Shaman conjured the Foot of Gork above the Bestigor but the natural resistance of the herd repelled the conjuration. The beastmen had however nothing left to prevent the Hand of Gork which brough the Savage Orcs out of range of the Ghorgon and in position to threaten the Bray-Shaman.
Turn 2 - Beastmen
The Ghorghor bellowed as he charged the Night Goblins who suddenly looked up from their brawl in terror! As one Goblin they broke and ran through the village behind them. Five managed to find hiding places but the rest appeared in panic on the other side. The great beast roared as he saw his prey escape him!
The Bestigor charged the Pump Wagon but their path led them directly into the crazed Mangler Squigs...they were able to cut down the cave monsters but their death throes accounted for no less than ten of the Bestigor. Shocked but resolute, the survivors rushed on to the Pump Wagon and reduced the device to splinters with their axes.
The Gor turned towards the chariot while the Great Bray-Shaman turned tail (again) and ran behind the Bestigor herd!
Turn 3 - Orcs and Goblins
As the Night Goblins continued to run in panic, both chariots drove straight into the Bestigor Herd. The other chariot and the Savage Orcs encircled the Gor.
Krashnakh entreated his gods again and Gork's Foot descended once more from the heavens. This time the Orc God would not be denied and his foot stamped squarely on the Gor herd, crushing ten bodies beneath it! Just as the foot had disappeared, a screaming Doom Diver plummeted down and killed another Gor. The surivors were shocked but rallied around their battle standard.
The chariots crushed five Bestigor under their wheels but neither the wolves nor the crew were able to bring down any more. The five survivors remained steadfast and struck back at the goblins with their axes, severely damaging two chariots. Both sides prepared themselves for another round of fighting.
Turn 3 - Beastmen
The Gor reformed into a narrow column to try and escape the Savage Orcs, while the Ghorgon moved to threaten their flank. As the Great Bray-Shaman moved up beside the Bestigor, the Beastmen struck again at the chariots, killed the wolves and the crew and reduced both of the rickety war machines to splinters!
Turn 4 - Orcs and Goblins
The eyes of the Savage Orcs lit up in delight - at last a worthy foe! Without hesitating they charged the Ghorgon in the flank.
The last remaining chariot sought revenge for the destruction of the other two and drove into the back of the Gor. Unnerved from their losses and the frothing Savage Orc mob behind them, the herd tried to flee from the chariot but were caught and cut down by the triumphant crew!
The Night Goblins had however decided that they wanted nothing to do with a battlefield with a raging Ghorgon on it and fled as fast as they could, gratefully disappearing over the far edge of the field.
Although the Winds of Magic blew weakly, Krashnakh was able to call down the blessing of Mork (or possibly Gork) on his Savage Orc Brudaz for the forthcoming fight. Who would prevail - the bestial might of the Ghorgon or the raw savagery of the Orcs?
While the Savage Orcs were preparing for their epic struggle, the crew of the Doom Diver catapult took aim and sent a wildly cackling goblin directly into the remaining Bestigor! When the dust cleared all that remained was an untidy heap of lifeless bodies...
As the Savage Orcs reached the Ghorgon, it reached down and tore three Orcs apart with its bestial strength. The savages however completely ignored their losses and struck at the monster with the unstoppable power of the Waaagh! The beast could not defend itself against so many attacks and took wound after wound until it fell to its knees. With a roar of triumph, Uggrob, the Orc Boss, jumped up and buried his axe in the brain of his foe. The body collapsed and the earth shook as the huge corpse hammered into the ground. The might of the Waaagh had defeated the Beast!
As the Ghorgon fell, two bloody wounds opened in the Great Bray-Shaman's body as he felt the monster's death as if it were his own. The last remaining member of the Beastman army was gravely wounded - what hope remained for him now?
Turn 4 - Beastmen
Staggering in pain, the Great Bray-Shaman sought the cover of the hill in the corner of the field. His attempt at summoning another monster from the woods was instantly cut off by Krashnakh's dispel scroll.
Turn 5 - Orcs and Goblins
All of the Orc army had only one goal - hunting down the Bray Shaman! But neither the arrows of the goblins nor the spells of the Waaagh could touch him. Would he be able to escape?
Turn 5 - Beastmen
As the Great Bray-Shaman finally reached the hill, he sneered at Krashnakh and mocked the enraged Orc before raising his voice in summons once again...and again he received a reply. A second Ghorgon entered the field behind him!
Turn 6 - Orcs and Goblins
The Orcs only had one more chance to kill the Bray-Shaman but his bestial Gods were with him and protected him from their wrath. Arrows danced around him but could not touch him and the spells of the enraged Orc Shaman seemed to reflect off an invisible barrier. Krashnakh roared in frustration as he saw his enemy slip away from him!
Turn 6 - Beastmen
As the sun set, the Ghorgon, controlled by the Great Bray-Shaman, attacked the Doom Diver Catapult and promptly ripped it apart along with its crew!
With a last insulting gesture towards the frothing Orc Shaman, the Beastman shaman and his creature slipped away into the woods.
The Orcs had won the victory but the Beastman Great Bray-Shaman had escaped!
The Orcs win 18:02.

This battle went really well – at least for the first four turns – but it was also incredibly frustrating as the Great Bray-Shaman with only one wound strolled across the whole battlefield, danced through a rain of arrows and evil Waaagh magic and even managed to summon a second Ghorgon. The turning point was the chariots charging the Bestigor – they really should have killed at least 6 of the 10 remaining models and then they would no longer have been steadfast, would have surely failed their break test AND I would have pursued straight into the Bray-Shaman with impact hits. But it wasn’t to be!
I was however delighted with the Savage Orcs taking the Ghorgon out in one turn – monsters might be ‘ard but my Boys are even ‘arder!
Krashnakh stared at the huge fire – the Savage Orcs had skewered the body of the Ghorgon on a Big Stabba and were busily turning the spit and arguing if the meat was done or not. The shaman called Uggrob over. “Did ya find the Beastman boss?”
“Nah Boss”. The Orc shook his head.
The Orc Shaman seethed with rage and Uggrob hastily put some distance between himself and Krashnakh as his eyes began to glow redly. If there were only a few goblins to throw in front of him for him to take out his temper on…but the little gitz had all run away!
Krashnakh would have ordered the whole mob into the forest to find his enemy, but the rational part of him - small though it was - knew that such a search in the middle of the night in a forest overrun with Beastmen would only lead to a dead search party. He still couldn’t quite believe that the enemy shaman could have escaped. If you have to rely on goblins…
The shaman screamed into the trees:
"I’m gonna find yer! I’m gonna come and strangle yer wiv yer own guts! I’ll eat yer heart while yer watch! I’m gonna make yer clean the Squig Cave wiv a toothbrush! While they’re still in it!”
His only reply was mocking laughter drifting out of the forest…
